Overview

Our flagship expedition. Twelve days linking the Tizi n’Tichka pass, the earthen kasbahs of the Ounila Valley, the Anti-Atlas and the palm groves that bleed into the Sahara near Merzouga. A journey across three worlds — alpine, oasis and desert — on the kind of remote gravel that made us start this company.

Why ride this tour

  • Cross the full Atlas-to-Sahara gradient in a single trip — alpine passes to sand.
  • Ride the Ounila Valley’s ochre piste past Telouet and Ait Benhaddou, rarely trafficked.
  • Finish on the Erg Chebbi dunes with a desert camp night under a sky that has no light pollution.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a gravel bike or can I use a mountain bike?

A gravel bike with 40–45c tyres is ideal for the surface mix. A hardtail MTB works too but is slower on the tarmac links.

How much climbing is there really?

Around 8,200 m over the trip, concentrated in the Atlas days. You should be comfortable with multiple 1,000 m days.

Is the desert section rideable on a gravel bike?

Yes — we route the desert days on compacted piste and hard-packed sand. Soft sand sections are short and walkable.
