Frequently asked questions

What is the best time to ride the Ounila Valley?

March–May and September–November for clear, mild conditions and the best light on the ochre canyon walls. Summer is hot but rideable early; winter can bring snow on the pass approaches.

How hard is the Ounila piste?

Moderate. A compact 54 km valley piste with 300–700 m of climbing — rideable on a standard gravel bike with 40c tyres. It is one of the most accessible beautiful gravel days in Morocco.

What makes the Ounila special?

It is a living caravan route — ochre canyon walls, Berber villages, the crumbling Glaoui kasbah at Telouet and the UNESCO ksar of Ait Benhaddou at the end. History, scenery and rideable surface in one valley.

Can I ride it in a day?

Yes — the Telouet to Ait Benhaddou piste is a single day. It also features in our Marrakech-to-Ouarzazate Adventure and the Atlas to Sahara Grand Tour as a multi-day highlight.

What accommodation is available?

Village guesthouses in the valley and kasbah stays at Ait Benhaddou. It is usually ridden as a day or as one overnight within a longer trip.

How do I get to the Ounila Valley?

Telouet is about 180 km / 3 hours from Marrakech, usually reached over the Tizi n’Tichka. We arrange transfers as part of a guided day or multi-day tour.

Is it safe?

Yes. The valley is sheltered, traffic-free and well-populated. A guide adds the cultural and historical context that makes the day — and a support vehicle is available.

Can I bring my own bike?

Yes. We help with assembly in Marrakech, or rent you a gravel bike set up for the piste. The surface is forgiving enough for a first Moroccan gravel day.
