Amezmiz is the foothills gateway southwest of Marrakech — a quiet market town at around 450 m where the Haouz plain begins to climb toward the Atlas. The pistes here run through argan and olive country with few other cyclists, making Amezmiz the uncrowded alternative to the Ourika for a Marrakech day ride.
Amezmiz is a market town at the southwestern edge of the Marrakech foothills, on the road toward the Amizmiz reservoir and the higher Atlas valleys. Because it is less on the tourist trail than the Ourika, the pistes around it are quieter — argan groves, olive terraces, red-earth tracks and Berber villages with barely another rider in sight.
The signature ride is the Amezmiz Gravel dossier — rolling foothill pistes that climb gradually from the plain toward the higher valleys. Amezmiz is also the first riding stop on the 5-Day Atlas Gravel Tour, which transfers here on day one before climbing toward Ouirgane.
Moderate. Rolling foothill terrain — short climbs and descents through the groves and villages, gradually gaining height. Comfortable with 40–50 km and 400–600 m of climbing. The surface is firm earth and gravel; 40c tyres are right.
Rideable year-round at this altitude. Spring and autumn are ideal — green groves and clear Atlas views. Summer is hot on the lower ground; ride early. Winter is mild and fine. Carry 2 L; Amezmiz town has shops and cafés, and the villages have tea stops.
If you want the foothills without the crowds, Amezmiz is the pick. Pair it with Lalla Takerkoust on a two-day overnight, or use it as the gentle start to a longer Atlas trip.
About 45 km southwest — under an hour by transfer. It is the first stop on the 5-Day Atlas Gravel Tour.
Yes — it is less on the tourist trail, so the pistes see far fewer cyclists and visitors. The riding is similar foothill gravel but more solitary.
